This is a must read for every Pastor who's tired of the status quo. I totally disagree with anyone who says the methods described in it are outdated because of changing times. To me its just like saying that what's in the bible is outdated because times have changed. This book will turn around your life and that of your Ministry for the better.

Although this book is titled transform youtr pastoral ministry, it overenfasises prayer and visitation as the keys to ministry transformation. Although these areas are so key, they are not however,the only keys.Most of the book focuses on these two issues. Also, i feel the methods of visitation are highly outdated due to the change in times, and people availabilty and even desire to be vivited by a pastor. this authors book on loyalty is great. I bought all his other books, and found most of them to be ok, but not much worth highliting.Ill stick with his book on loyalty. In all, this book is ok, but inclined more to prayer and outdated visitation methods.

The Pelvis discusses injuries to the pelvic girdle.

The authors also provide information on cardiopulmonary resuscitation, list basic first aid equipment, give a partial compilation of weaponry sometimes involved in injuries, and present an anatomical chart of injuries.

Throughout the book, special efforts are made to convey an understanding of how and why martial arts injuries occur, how they can best be prevented, and how to select optimal emergency and comprehensive methods of treatment. The unique scope and presentation of the text contribute to the success of these efforts. The result is a book that will be indispensable both in the dojo and in the physician's office.

Complete but difficult

Medical Injuries in the Martial Arts. What could be more useful? Not this book. Have a muscle strain? A "...frequent complaint in the martial arts"? No problem! Just note:

**"The posterior muscle mass is more commonly traumatized, and in severe cases, may be indistinguishable from ligamentous sprain or fracture. Therefore a history of the injury mechanism often obtainable from the the instructor and careful neurologic and radiographic examination may be required..." **

I picked this page at random. Really.

Of course you could say: "Neck strain is a common, and it's difficult to tell how serious it may be. You may want to get an X-ray and tell the ER doctor exactly how it happened so he could rule out nerve damage." But hey, where's the fun in that?

Oh wait: this book is supposed to be for the layman, perhaps the Sensei, to be familiar with possible injuries and quickly refer to them and advice on what to do next. Most every injury listed, regardless of how minor, is recommended to visit a doctor, get expensive tests, and is treated as if it were a major event. Therefore, there is no need for this book, as its own advice is to throw it out and visit the E.R.

Can it be useful? Sure. If you can translate the above passage without hesitation, and can walk-back with common sense how serious an injury may or may not be, and distinguish it from the dozen similar injuries listed. But it's not a quick first-aid guide. Nor a doctor's guide. Nor a guide on how people may be seriously injured by karate moves, either to cause or prevent them. Not sure what they're aiming for.

Complete and accurate. Readable, not over long, thus 3-stars. But make your own choice about the practicality of this guide in your dojo library.

Tribal times...

This book is really fascinating, although a bit outdated. Personally I'd like Kulick to update this thing (if he did I'd give it a 5).

This book goes into detail about a particular tribe in New Guinea, from their rituals, religious life, to their interactions (while limited) with outsiders. Mainly it talks about how their society is changing because of their desire to modernize, which, because of their limited interaction with the outside world had (at the time) caused them to have very interesting religious beliefs.

Its a classic, and probably one of the best anthropological books I've read thus far.
