About the Author

Ding-Geng (Din) Chen, Ph.D., is a professor at the University of Rochester Medical Center. Dr. Chen has vast experience in biostatistical research and clinical trial development and methodology. He has authored or co-authored more than 100 journal publications on biostatistical methodologies and applications. He is also the co-author (with Dr. Peace) of Clinical Trial Methodology and Clinical Trial Data Analysis Using R and a co-editor (with Drs. Sun and Peace) of Interval-Censored Time-to-Event Data: Methods and Applications. He is a member of the American Statistical Association, chair for the STAT section of the American Public Health Association, an associate editor of the Journal of Statistical Computation and Simulation, and an editorial board member of several other journals.

Karl E. Peace, Ph.D., is the Georgia Cancer Coalition Distinguished Cancer Scholar, senior research scientist, and professor of biostatistics in the Jiann-Ping Hsu College of Public Health at Georgia Southern University. He is also an adjunct professor of biostatistics at the VCU School of Medicine. Dr. Peace is a reviewer or editor of several journals, the founding editor of the Journal of Biopharmaceutical Statistics, and a fellow of the American Statistical Association. He has authored or co-authored over 150 articles and 10 books. He has received numerous awards, including the University System of Georgia Board of Regents’ Alumni Hall of Fame Award, the First President’s Medal for outstanding contributions to Georgia Southern University, and distinguished meritorious service awards from the American Public Health Association and other organizations. In 2012, the American Statistical Association created the Karl E. Peace Award for Outstanding Statistical Contributions for the Betterment of Society.

The book brings you up to speed quickly and the examples are relevant to actual research. About the Author

Ray C. Stedman (1917–1992) was one of the great pastors, expositors, and spiritual leaders of the twentieth century. A graduate of Dallas Theological Seminary, he was pastor of the Peninsula Bible Church in Palo Alto, California, for forty years. With over twenty books to his credit, from Spiritual Warfare to his insightful commentary Adventuring Through the Bible, Stedman spanned the experiences of the Christian life with his writing. His book Body Life had a tremendous impact on the church in the twentieth century.

A good old-fahioned Occultist reverie

I downloaded this one on a whim. I revere the poet, and it's past time to examine his work in detail.

I don't know where this one fits in the Sitz im Leben Yeats.

It is, as I say, a good old-fashioned Occultist reverie, filled with sonorous and evocative phrases that only a Yeats can deliver. Yet, I found it impossible to suspend disbelief. You'll get a more exciting tale from H.P. Lovecraft, an observation that doesn't speak well of an icon like Yeats.

There is one worthwhile magical idea worth mentioning. Yeats almost convinces me that ideas on the mental plane can be more real than concrete persons and objects. He points out, quite rightly, that Hamlet influences the minds of men more strongly and enduringly than "you or I."

To be read and laid aside.

An Intorduction to the Old Testament

Very well written book which deals with the higher critical treatment of Scripture and clearly shows the flaws in that approach. I recomend it for any one wishing to study the Old Testament with any seriouness. The chapters dealing with the individual books are short and to the point and provide a good overview of the book which will prepare the student for a rich enjoyment of the Scripture itself.

Balanced and conservative

I found this excellent text while looking for something to supplement the textbook chosen for the Introduction to the Old Testament class I teach. The chosen textbook does not inform the student that a conservative position exists. Young offers a reasonable critique of the popular documentary hypothesis and gives a fair hearing to Jewish tradition. After all, the Jews had the Hebrew Bible a lot longer than Christians, so their ancient opinion ought to count for something. The theory that one or more unknown and unremembered Jewish rabbis or prophet wannabe's authored some of the greatest literature in the history of the world is too ludicrous for words. Young upholds divine inspiration and revelation and provides a concise summary and commentary on each book of the Old Testament. I relied heavily on it for my class.

About the Author
Vijay K. Bhatia retired as Professor from the City University of Hong Kong, and is now Adjunct Professor at the University of Malaya, Kuala Lumpur, and at Macquarie University, Australia. He is also the founding President of the LSP and Professional Communication Association for the Asia-Pacific Rim. His research interests include critical genre analysis, ESP and professional communication. Two of his books, Analysing Genre: Language Use in Professional Settings and Worlds of Written Discourse: A Genre-based View, are widely used in genre theory and practice. Giuliana Garzone is Full Professor of English, Linguistics and Translation at the University of Milan, Italy. Her main field of investigation is specialized discourse in its different domains, which she has explored in a discourse analytical perspective, often integrating it with corpus linguistics. She has co-ordinated several research projects, and published extensively on legal language, scientific discourse, and business communication with first-class Italian and international publishers. Her other research interests are in translation and interpreting studies. Rita Salvi is Full Professor of English, Linguistics and Translation at the 'Sapienza' University of Rome, Italy. Her research interests include general and applied linguistics, text and genre analysis, intercultural discourse for academic and professional purposes, the analysis of specialized languages. She serves as a reviewer for journals, book publishers and research funding organizations. Girolamo Tessuto is Associate Professor of English, Lingustics and Translation at the University of Naples 2, Italy. His research interests are in applied linguistics, genre analysis of academic, institutional and professional discourses in legal contexts. His published academic work includes research monographs and several publications appearing as research papers, book chapters and co-edited volumes. He is a member of the editorial boards of various international linguistic journals. Christopher Williams is Full Professor of English, Linguistics and Translation at the University of Foggia, Italy, where he is also Head of the University's Language Centre. He has published works on the verb phrase, tense, aspect and modality in English, but his main research interest in recent years has been in legal English, in particular with reference to the plain language movement. He has also co-edited a number of volumes in the field of legal English with international publishers. He is Chief Editor of the journal ESP Across Cultures.
