LOVED IT

This story is well written and yes it has sex hot amazing sex…….

It’s not about winning. It’s about how you play the game.

The first two books where amazing and I couldn’t wait for book 3 to come out and Brooke Harris did not let me down. This series really is crazy, captivating, and keeps you on the edge of your seat and I mean your literally biting your nails off.

Eva has grown so much since the series began that I am really proud of her. She’s done being a people pleaser, and now she’s going after what she wants. And she wants Julian Harte and she plans on staking her claim.

Julian has always enjoyed a challenge that comes with the game. But some challenges are too big, even for him. He’s about to face the hardest decision of his life. Keeping secrets is the only way he knows how to protect Eva.

Eva is not making it easy for Julian and is running out of time.

Will Julian and Eva realize that they are on the same team before it’s too late? Will they have their happily ever after?

I laughed and cried. I got angry at these two stubborn fools who just wouldn’t stop playing to win.
Julian and Eva have grown so much over this series that I am disappointed that it’s come to an end. I hope we get to meet up with them on a later date.

I highly recommend this book but please read the first two books to this series…

What to say, this book is

First off I just want to say that Brooke Harris is such a great author. Queen of Harte's was a much anticipated book in the Harte Series. The first two books were great but this one was not only fantastic, but was compelling and spell binding. It was hot, (I mean hot). It had so many twists and turns I had to stop and think back to the other books and it was like holy crap I didn't see that coming. At times I wanted to yell (well actually I did) at both Julian and Eva for their stubbornness. I can't tell you how often I had tears throughout this book. I must congratulate Brooke on the ending. As I was reading and crying thinking I couldn't believe this was how it was ending, she turned it around making me laugh and giving me, Julian and Eva our HEA. Great job Brooke the long anticipated wait was well worth it.

Love the series, but this book is better than the first two. Julian Harte is a force to be reckoned with! I am hoping, maybe even praying that this isn't the end of the Harte series. Brooke has made me laugh, cry and to love again!!

Not up to par for Rodgers

When I read the first two books in the series, Beauty Vs. the Beast and Baby Vs. the Bar, I had a very similar opinion of them: fascinating legal drama, but mediocre romance and characterization. Heart Vs. Humbug wasn't much different, other than the fact that the legal angle, though nice enough, wasn't as interesting as that in the other books. This one was a C+.

Granted, the last book featured a psychologist accused of killing one of the personalities of a Multiple Personality Disorder patient, and that's hard to top. But even considering that, the case here is more than ho-hum enough in its own right. The plot involves a Senior Citizen Centre locked in a battle with their landlord, who has raised the rent in order to force them out so he can develop the land into a nice, profitable complex. Yawn.

Heroine Octavia Osborne (a Justice Inc. associate) has been asked to help by her grandmother Mab, one of the Centre's director, while our hero, Brett Merlin, a lawyer himself, is helping his uncle, the landlord in question (but don't worry, the mean Scroogen isn't a blood relation of Brett's; he's merely married to his aunt).

The first sections of the book are the best, because they show Octavia and Brett locked in legal battle, and that's where Rodgers is always great. I very much enjoyed the ways each found to outmanouver the other, and most especially the courtroom scenes. Those were witty and fun. And I loved that Octavia tended to get the best out of Brett (not a double standard in this particular case... it's just that Scroogen was so mean and horrid!).

But after a while, when the legal drama turned to murder mystery, things became pretty dull. The characters didn't help. Octavia and Brett were the only ones who showed even minimal depths; most of the others were pretty wooden. Scroogen was the worst: a more cardboard villain I've never seen.

And speaking of Octavia and Brett's depths, that was somewhat disappointing, because these characters had huge potential that Rodgers ended up wasting. I was pretty interested in the issues that were set up, especially their views of the law and what it means to uphold it. There's Octavia, with her attitude that what's important is the spirit of the law, and there's Brett, who thinks it's most important to follow the law to the letter. It would have been a fascinating subject to develop, especially given Brett's history of putting The Law above everything else, even his ex-wife.

However, the space that could have been spent exploring how these two very different people can manage to get along in a relationship is spent on the boring plot. I was especially disappointed at the end, when Brett makes a certain gesture that's absolutely HUGE for him, and we don't get to see any details about why and how he came to that decision.

All in all, a book even fans of this series might skip without really losing much. There's almost no Justice Inc. stuff here. There's only a tiny cameo appearance by AJ (we don't really learn anything about her, anyway), plus a hint about something mysterious in Adam's past, about some kind of spate of law-breaking after his wife left him, but since Adam hasn't really shown up much in the whole series, it was hard to get too worked up about it.

Rodgers does it again!

I bought my first M.D. Rodgers book, "To Have Vs. to Hold" at a yard sale years ago and have been trying to find other books in the "Justice Inc." series (with no success) ever since. I have a friend who goes to tons of yard sales keeping an eye out for me, too, so when I saw that these books were available for Kindle, I bought this one (and have the others on my Wish List).

As soon as I started reading, I was hooked and remember why I love Rodgers' books in the first place. Octavia and Brett and their different backgrounds (his family didn't believe in Santa; hers did). They were interesting and fun characters and I love the way their relationship built up slowly (but not too slowly). I love the secondaries like Octavia's grandmother and the seniors who work so hard to get their senior center.

An intriguing legal mystery with lots of confusion. I was surprised at the premise of this book. A senior citizen accused of threatening acts that then become a charge of murder. Her granddaughter, Octavia, is a sharp, fiercely loyal attorney. When the landlord of the Senior Citizens center raises their rent to an outrageous amount, Octavia comes to help fight it.
This is how she meets Attorney Brett Merlin, aka 'the Magician'. Brett goes by the letter of the law. Octavia goes by her heart. All is fair in her eyes. So many things about Brett fascinate her. As well as an undeniable attraction to him. They are on different sides of the fence where the case is concerned, but they can't deny the attraction that is drawing them together.
Octavia's character is amazing. So different from what you would expect in a lawyer. Her caring and concern for her grandmother is extremely touching. The methods she uses against Brett are frustrating to him. She has never felt an attraction like the one she feels for Brett.
Brett is surprised with every new thing he learns about Octavia. From where she lives to her choices of food. Nothing about her adds up and she just keeps surprising him. He has never felt for any woman what he is feeling for her.
When things take a turn for the worse, will he help her or hang her grandmother with a charge of murder? A mystery that you will love. An attraction that will fascinate you as much as it did them. I enjoyed reading this very much. It was a yard sale find and well worth the time to read it.

About the Author
Kenton J. Falerios was a career Soldier who served in the US Army for 22 years; 14 years would be with the Paratroopers. He enlisted in October 1984 and fought in Operations Desert Storm and Iraqi Freedom. He deployed to the Sinai Peninsula as part of the Multinational Force & Observers. He also served with the Stabilization Forces in Bosnia-Herzegovina for Operations Joint Guard and Joint Forge. His other assignments ranged from Germany, Panama, El Salvador, and Fort Bragg. He holds a Master's Degree in Business & Organizational Security Management. He retired from the US Army as the last First Sergeant of the 82nd Military Police Company in October 2006.

I am a little biased; in the spirit of full disclosure, I served with Kenton Falerios. Kenton captured the spirit and essence of the 82nd MP Company. If you have spent hours at a TCP on Longstreet and Ardennes during PT hours... Received a "mustard stain" from Panama... Tasted the sand of Sicily drop zone... Or served in any of the major conflicst since WWI; then you have a reason to pick up this book and cherish your history. Thank you Kenton, for documenting the history of the most prestigious MP Company in the US Army. If you are an allium of the 82nd MP Co, you MUST by this book and preserve your history.

Actually being assigned to this unit for almost 9 years, I must say that this book is great! 1SG Kenton Falerios was the last First Sergeant of the unit before deactivation, and I must note that he too, was my First Sergeant. Great stories, photos, and information that would be lost to history if not for his research. I am honored to have one of my situations presented in the book as well. Thomas A. Disappointed ...

This is an interesting look into Holtz, Notre Dame and college football, and the book got off to a good start. But the more I read, the less objective the authors got, and that was disappointing and makes me wonder how much they purposely slanted their work.

The worldview of the authors is too transparent. One minor example: I had to roll my eyes when the authors called God "She" in the chapter on Faust.

Far from objective

I admit I was curious to read this book to see what sort of legitimate violations or proof of such it could bring up. I was very dissapointed that the sources, interviews, and conclusions drawn from them seem far from credible. From the first chapter it is obvious the authors have an anti-Holtz agenda, though they claim to be "objective". A typical strategy for the authors is to interview a no-name player that got kicked off the team for, say, steroid use, let the disgruntled ex-student vent, and then inerpolate that interview out to conclude that steroid use is rampant in the entire program and overtly condoned by the staff and the administration, and that high-level conspiracies are in effect to cover it up. The authors do everything they can to stretch the truth and claim that their gross interpolations are "facts". I appreciate good, objective, academic debates, but this book was far from that. If you dislike ND, and have minimal capacity for critical, independent thought, you may like and believe this book. Others that can look beyond the propaganda (no matter if you're an ND fan or not) will realize there's a minimal fact pattern to support far reaching conclusions.

What Could've Been....

I picked up this book at a tremendously discounted price, and at this point, I'm certainly glad I did. The book has a great premise - looking behind the scenes at Notre Dame. However, what it turns into, is mud slinging of the highest quality.

Instead of taking the good and bad from the controversial University, the authors take the low road and simply report the bad. They get interviews from a few players who belittle both ND and Holtz, but coincidentally, most tranferred because of lack of playing time and some even were kicked out of the University for disciplinary reasons.

The few players/coaches in the book that try to defend Holtz (and who ended up being NFL All-Pros) are made to look like imbeciles and only get one quote, whereas someone telling a "sob story" gets pages upon pages.

It's really a disgrace that something of this quality is considered good journalism. It's nothing more than a glorified tabloid. And a bad one at that.

Humorous and informative but many typos

Great review on a wide variety of topics. The humor alleviates some of the tension associated with board reviews. I prefer this over Swanson's and Mometix which I've used in the past. 2 reasons I took away a star: 1. It was delivered the first week of October which is 3 months past the expected delivery date of mid-July 2. A lot of typos which is disappointing considering they had 3 extra months before delivering this edition.
